In the "kind of a big deal" department, Todd Helton goes on the 15-day DL after being hospitalized with stomach cramps. They’ve been running tests… I hope to God this is just indigestion and not something really serious. Anyway, in his absence Ryan Spilborghs has been called up, though he won’t be playing first base. I suppose with Shealy hurt and Koshansky not ready, Eli Marrero will be getting the majority of the starts at first with Helton shelved.
Matt Morris has given up an amazing 16 runs in his last nine innings at Coors Field. The Rockies should have fun today and make it two of three.
Barry Bonds FINALLY hit a homer last night, and unfortunately it had to come off Aaron Cook, who took his third loss of the season. Aaron Cook just can’t get any luck. Maybe Jason Jennings will let him borrow some. JJ gave up seven runs on Friday but took a no decision as the Rockies came back in the ninth to win, 9-8. So the Rockies are now 4-0 when JJ starts. With Josh Fogg starting Monday, the Rockies should be pretty much guaranteed a win. (Then again, by that logic, we’re pretty much guaranteed a loss today with Francis pitching.)
Miguel Asencio got called up on Friday and then pitched out of the bullpen in Friday’s game. I’m not really sure what was going on; maybe Clint wanted to get him a couple of innings work and start him on Tuesday. Or maybe the fifth starter is a player to be named later. I don’t know.
That’s it for now. Go Rockies!
